2020.11.27 01:11 TimeFlashes Help me build my first PC

1. What will you be doing with this PC? Be as specific as possible, and include specific games (ex: resolution, FPS, settings) or programs you will be using.
I'll be playing games, browsing and watching streams. I mainly play Rocket League, but I'd like to run modern games at max @ 1080p with high framerate (monitor is 144 KHz).
2. What is your maximum PRE-TAX budget before rebates and shipping?
1000
3. When do you plan on building/buying the PC? Note: beyond a week or two from today means any build you receive will be out of date when you want to buy.
ASAP, I would like to take advantage of BF deals.
4. What, exactly, do you need included in the budget? (ex: toweOS/monitokeyboard/mouse/etc)
Tower, OS, keyboard, mouse and headset.
5. If reusing any parts (including monitor(s)/keyboard/mouse/etc), what parts will you be reusing? How old are they? Brands and models are appreciated.
I have two vx2458-mhd monitors (1080p, 144KHz, 1ms).
6. Will you be overclocking (ex: CPU/GPU/RAM)? If yes, are you interested in overclocking right away, or down the line?
Preferably down the line, I don't want to have to replace parts soon.
7. Are there any specific features or items you want/need in the build? (ex: SSD, Wi-Fi, VR, VirtualLink, tensor cores, large amount of storage or a RAID setup, CUDA or OpenCL support, etc)
SSD and Wi-Fi.
8. Do you have any specific case preferences (ex: mITX/mATX/mid-towefull-tower sizes, styles, colours, window or not, LED lighting, etc.), or a particular color theme preference for the components?
I'd prefer not to have LEDs anywhere.
9. Do you need a copy of Windows included in the budget? Note: some post-secondary students can get Windows 10 for free.
Yes
10. Will you be upgrading this PC in the future (ie: will you swap out better parts later on or will you build an entirely new tower later)? If so, when?
I want to keep the same parts for the entire gaming generation (~7 years) if possible.
11. Do you have a brand preference? (ex: AMD/Intel for CPUs, AMD/NVIDIA for video cards, etc)
No.
12. What are the specs of your old PC / laptop? Do you want to see if it can be upgraded instead? If so, paste its build from PCPartPicker here.
This is my first PC.
13. Extra info or particulars:
Living in Ottawa, Ontario.

2020.11.25 17:07 talltad COVID Mortality Percentage by City

I live in Brampton and started looking at a lot of the numbers across Ontario and have found something that I can't fully understand but leads me to believe that Brampton might only be in the COVID Spotlight because we have conducted a lot of tests which has resulted in a high amount of cases.
The table below show the Mortality rate of each city. I simply took the number of identified cases and deaths as a percentage of them.

City Mortality % Date of Data Captured Source
Brampton 0.69% 11/23 Source
Mississauga 3.12% 11/23 Source
Vaughn 3.30% 11/23 York Region Dashboard
Markham 2.55% 11/23 York Region Dashboard
Toronto 4.07% 11/23 Source
Ottawa 4.47% 11/25 Source
Burlington 1.92% 11/25 Source
Oakville 1.60% 11/25 Source
Hamilton 2.93% 11/25 Source
Oshawa 3.35% 11/25 Source
Canada 3.46% 11/23 Source
Note: York Regions Dashboard doesn't translate well into a shareable link for some reason.
My personal thoughts on the above is Brampton is identifying more cases because we have been able to do drive through testing for sometime and anyone can get tested, therefore our mortality as a percentage of those cases is far lower than any other city. I'm open to suggestions but that's the only thing I can logically see here.
If this is the case, then is it fair to assume these other cities have far more cases than they've identified? Keep in mind Brampton has one of the lowest healthcare resources out of any of these cities as well.
Would love to hear some feedback/thoughts on the numbers. thx

2020.11.24 18:04 bbud613 Chateau Laurier addition revision AGAIN??

The City of Ottawa has received a revised site plan application proposing a new design for the rear addition to the Château Laurier hotel. The new design is the result of settlement reached between the owner, Larco Investments Inc., and Heritage Ottawa following legal challenges of the earlier proposal.

To learn more, visit ottawa.ca/chateaulaurier or http://chateauvision.ca/en/home/.

Applicant’s Proposal
The addition will add 159 hotel rooms, meeting rooms, an associated lobby area and an underground parking garage with 301 parking spaces to the existing hotel.

The development proposal retains the hotel in its entirety, and the addition will be built on the site of the former parking garage. It consists of ten- and eleven-storey pavilions with a two-storey connector in between. The addition will connect to limited areas on the Château Laurier’s east and west wings. Exterior materials will be limestone, bronze and glass.

The development proposal also includes a landscaped courtyard between the Château Laurier and the proposed addition, a redesigned forecourt along Mackenzie Avenue, a walkway and ramp along the north side of the addition, and a new stairway between the courtyard and the public terrace on the west side of the Rideau Canal.

Heritage
The Château Laurier is designated under Part IV of the Ontario Heritage Act. For more information on the heritage aspects of this proposal, visit ottawa.ca/chateaulaurier.
